Boracay Island - Exciting Trip with Friends

Boracay island is one of the best attraction that the Philippines has. It's known for it's pristine white sand beaches that offers both relaxations and nightlife. In 2012, Boracay island was awarded with the best island in the world by an international travel magazine in New York, US called Travel + Leisure
Boracay Island
With friends at Boracay Island
Boracay island is in the province of Aklan, Philippines. Its named is said to be from borac meaning white cotton. An apt description of the powdery sand of Boracay beaches. Some also had from bora meaning bubbles, and another one is bocay means white. Stories way back from Spanish era telling that the island is called sagay, which means shell and boray means seed. Whatever name it came from, getting to Boracay island is truly a dream come true to me. Let me reminisce my 24-hour trip from Dumaguete City to Boracay Island.

How to get there? Easy. Let me take your with me then.

Manila, Philippines
to
Caticlan airport
to
Caticlan jetty port (15 min bus ride)
to
Boracay Island's Cagban port (15 min boat ride)
to
Boracay's white beaches (15 min landtrip)

From Dumaguete City, Philippines? Not really.
 Dumaguete City, Philippines
to
Cebu City airport
to
Caticlan or Kalibo airport (same route above)
We didn't have enough time to book this trip. We went to Boracay island by land trip, so we were in three cities in just a matter of less than 24 hours.

Dumaguete City, Philippines
to
Bacolod City port
to
Ilo-ilo City port
to
Caticlan jetty port (same route above)
Ceres Bus from Dumaguete City
Bacolod City port
Excited much!
aboard Roro shipping lines to Dumangas, Ilo-ilo
Public Van bound to Ilo-ilo City
Ilo-ilo City, Philippines
Dinner in Ilo-ilo City
Smallville at Ilo-ilo City
Smallville is a night-life center of Ilo-ilo City. It's like Eastwood in Manila, and Mango Avenue in Cebu, or Hayahay Area in Dumaguete City.
Videoke with friends
Instead of checking to a hotel, we decided not to waste every single minute of the trip. We agreed to do videoke.
Jowalsh, Max, Phioxee, Ichu, Joey, Jico, and Joyce
We're all partners, but unfortunately, Jowalsh's partner was not able to come.
The next morning (3:00), we took a bus ride for Caticlan. We really regretted not to check in a hotel and get some rest. We're so damn exhausted. We even forgot to change our clothes!
I look horrible in this bus ride bound to Caticlan, Philippines
Boracay Island
Thank you for visiting today. Next post will be about Le Soleil Beach Front Resort in Boracay Island. Hope you'll ready yourself on our next tour!

Just me,

  11. your trip is reminding me of my early after college days, i would do something like that, i would take a boat from bacolod to iloilo, then, from iloilo to caticlan, then, to boracay and forget about time. can't wait for your next posts of boracay.

  12. Now alam ko na ang mga biyahe kung mapapadpad ako ng Bora. :) Ang ikli ng biyahe, lol. Ang dami pang dadaanan pero sulit pala and madami pang masa-sight while nasa biyahe.

  24. Good for you! Buti ikaw ay nakapunta na d'yan sa Boracay. Ako ay hanggang "asa" na lang. Hehe...pero mapuntahan ko rin yan. Mark my words. :-)

I read your explanation about the etymology of the name of Boracay. Let me add another tidbit. This original name of this island is Borocay. Yan yung mga nakasulat sa mga lumang mapa. Yun nga lang nuong naging tourist area yung lugar ay naging Boracay ang tawag ng mga tourists kaya yun naging Boracay na ang pangalan ng isla.
